What is Modesty?

Modesty protects the mystery of persons. Modesty is decency. It inspires one's choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity.

Dena,

What a delight to hear from you. You really manage to keep people posted on things. I like the idea of helping people see that modesty is not something to be shunned. Like God, mystery is better than letting it all hang out! But not everyone in society agrees - obviously. So each of us does what we can to spread good news rather than being a slave to whatever the latest style may be. After all, style only packages what is already there. If there's nothing there, style can't make something except artificially.

Keep sharing your sensitivity and ways to be yourself and "in style" for the person you are.

Blessings,
LB
